Preorder period ending
In Selenoth, the race of Man is on the
ascendant. The ancient dragons sleep. The ghastly Witchkings are
no
more; their evil power destroyed by the courage of Men and the
fearsome magic of the Elves. The Dwarves have retreated to the
kingdoms of the Underdeep, the trolls hide in their mountains, and
even the savage orc tribes have learned to dread the iron
discipline
of Amorr's mighty legions. But after four hundred years of mutual
suspicion, the rivalry between two of the Houses Martial that rule
the Amorran Senate threatens to turn violent, and unrest sparks
rebellion throughout the imperial provinces. In the north, the
barbarian reavers who have long plagued the coasts of the White
Sea
beg for the royal protection of the King of Savondir, as they flee
a vicious race of wolf-demons. In the east, the war drums
echo throughout the mountains as orcs and goblins gather in great
numbers, summoned by their bestial gods.
And when the Most Holy and Sanctified Father is found dead in his bed, leaving the Ivory Throne of the Apostles unclaimed, the temptation to seize the Sacred College and wield Holy Mother Church as a weapon is more than some fallen souls can resist.
We're working hard on getting the ebook out on December 1st. The hardcover won't ship for about two weeks after that, so if anyone spots any errata of any kind in the ebook, be it typos, grammar, or continuity, please don't hesitate to email them to me immediately and we'll get them corrected. We will, of course, be providing updated ebooks to those who have purchased them. This is a little unusual, but then, the book is a hefty monster that is going to run around 900 pages in the 6x9 format and given that you guys managed to find over 100 errors in each of the three EW novels published and line-edited by Pocket, I have no doubt we'll miss a few howlers here.
Marcher Lord also asked me to remind those who are interested in buying the hardcover, but have not yet preordered it that the preorder discount offer will end on Monday, November 26th. Remember that in addition to the discounted price, those who have preordered the hardcover will receive the ebook when it comes out. Thanks to all of you who have preordered already.

Any idea what the ebook pricing will be?
The ebook will be $4.99.
I read A Magic Broken yesterday, entertaining short story with two lead characters that I would want to read more about in the future. One touch I particularly liked was the portrayal of the minor slaver character as being something other than just a complete scumbag.
Thanks for the reminder. Just placed the order that I have meant to make for a month...
ok I'm pretty sure I missed something. Which one of these books is set in the same world as summa elvetica? or are these books in a completely different world.
Plus, I'm in book five of the Malazan the fallen saga....
I blanked it too. Thanks.

Both A Magic Broken and A Throne of Bones are set in the same world as SE.
It's Black Friday at Vox's place. Just kidding I figure he thinks about BF as I do.
Question: How is the ebook to be delivered? I can't remember, but I may have had to give my email address when I ordered weeks ago. Is that it?

Yes, that is the plan.
Yes, that is the plan.
OK: It's been awhile since I've looked as forward to a nice long and well written book as this will be to get into. Some decent vino, some reasonable cheese, maybe some soft classic playing. Yeah, seems like a plan...
Books ordered... will be sending one to a friend who really liked your take on Lovecraft & Lincoln.
Can't wait, haven't read a novel in months.
Must broaden attention span...
Vox's period is ending. I hope it had a heavy flow.
Thanks for sharing that with all the readers.
Damn. I really want this book, but I don't think I've ever spent $40 on a book for recreational reading before...
I might have to buy the ebook instead. :(
I'm probably just going to get the ebook, but I'm definitely excited about this.
Selenoth reminds me more of the world from Dragon Age than any other fantasy books I've read (so far. I don't pay much attention to the super gritty anti-hero stuff.)
By the way, I love how Marcher Lord rated this book "M" for "profanity and sexual content." This just makes me more excited about it.
TheoConfidor...
It's only 29.99 with the free ePub.
I really think you'll like it.
Kyle, wait a mionute, rated M? As long as he stayed away from Lesbian Wereseals I think I can make it through.
"I'm sorry, my darling Shannon. It will never work. You must go back to your husband."
"But Mark, he doesn't understand me like you do, my loving pinniped. Be it water or ice floe, it does not matter. You have warmed my heart."
"But what will the village think?"
They lovingly embraced. Mark's small blubber layer cushioned, and form-fitted Sharon tightly. The sun then began to slowly rise in the empty sky over the eskimo compound in the distance, emphasizing their full love. It seemed so far away, like another world. The pair turned, and looked out over the snow as Mark's flipper rested upon her lower back. The ice sparkled gently as the new dawn began.
"Once more, Mark? Just once more?"
They eskimo kissed once more. His subtle whiskers left behind a trace of surfactant secretion on her left cheek.
"Thw world will never understand us. Now go Shannon... Go before they find out."
That was a normal wereseal. I'm not sure I can capture the interspecies essence of the lesbian wereseal. I'll begin some research shortly.
It's just... so beautiful...
//grabs tissue
Excuse me.

You actually read stuff like that?
Why are barber poles, barber poles?
Why do skunks stink?
Why am I here and how did we meet?
My deep abiding love for Vox's novels can only be matched by the worker ant's love for the queen.

No I just channeled it right now after Rantor mentioned Wereseals. That's why I won a Pulitzer Prize in writing. Also, why do bad things happen to good people?
Can't you just embrace the interspecies love? Why do you hate the love there with pinnipeds? Why do you want it to die, instead of spread and blossom outside the Arctic Circle?

Here's a haiku for you:
Worker bees can leave.
Even drones can fly away.
The queen is their slave.

Well... I quit legal drugs and alcohol all at once (Efexor) and when I did I spent nights waking pulling imaginary slime from my hands. Many good people go down because even if they never read about "wearseals" (still don't know what they are) they are stupefied by what they see every damn day.
Life is a joke and the joke is on us.
"Worker bees can leave.
Even drones can fly away.
The queen is their slave."
I never missed that, however. I miss many things, I suspect. Only the proud think they know, when they don't.
@Rantor: With shipping and CA tax it's about $40. I hate my state.
Vox
You've written about the demographic change in the electorate, etc, etc. A picture is worth a 1000 words. Look at the pic of romney hugging wife on drudge in typical uberbeta fashion. Mitt sucked as a candidate and people saw him for what he is, a wuss. Thats why he lost.
Vox, is there any chance you can put together a soft or hardcover package that contains all your books and the order they should be read in?
I'm kind of a perfectionist so I want to do it right.
Thanks.
Maybe this has been answered elsewhere, but do I have to read the book about Thomas Aquinas and the elves to enjoy this one? I know they're set in the same world, but is there story crossover?
Not a SF reader, but am an admirer of the artist who does your bookcovers. They are always so well done. You are probably the only SF writer to have decent covers on your books.
@FUBAR Nation
Just look for an empty box.
Ordered, thank you.
Hey, it's Dimwit Dan!
Jealousy is so unbecoming.
Another thanks for the reminder, Vox. Just placed my order.
@ Faust,
Vox has said that no, you don't need to read Summa Elvetica to enjoy the new tome.
It may be too late to ask on this post; maybe OT on another?
Can you let us know, and tomorrow, Monday may be the day for this,
what have been your preorder totals. I know there may be marketing reasons the publisher may not want to release this info. Just curious.

No, you don't. Yes, there is story crossover, but it's definitely not required.

We're probably going to re-release a special edition of SE next year in hardcover with all the Selenoth short stories, a modestly-revised SE, and A Magic Broken. We'll do separate ebooks for SE + the two stories and an anthology of all the unpublished SE stories.
The goal would be for the second book in Arts of Dark and Light to come out the following year. I can't keep doing one of these monsters a year, it's just too much.

Sorry, no, publishers don't do that. But I can say that thanks to you guys, we did exceed our goal for the preorders yesterday.
we did exceed our goal for the preorders yesterday.
Yeah, thats what I was interested in; not so much the actual totals.
HooRah!
After a lot of back-and-forth, and help from ML, I got the preorder in. For those interested in SHTF senarios, the principal problem is that Argiestan has blocked PayPal and all transfers done through PP. People were getting around the currency restriction by opening two PP accounts - one in pesos, one in dollars - and then generating fictive movements between them, taking advantage of the official versus black market rates.
Yo Vox, I found a solution to that missing element from the social fabric of your stories. A nice conceptual model that will allow you to simulate a higher level of intuitive art.
It uses the 8 circuit model of consciousness the psychedelics folks talk about, but you'd only need 1-4 and sometimes 5 for fiction. Just define each character's place on each circuit, and some fluctuation or development.
It's not the be all end all, but it would serve to better differentiate your characters.
Dude, you make dread look normal
What doesn't kill you makes you stranger.
I was half wrong about Holmes; there are two of him. One's the nerd, the others a demon possessing him - a seduction achieved through the appeal of the persona of the invincible Joker.
Much like Vox's fictional portrayal of the columbine shooters, particularly the fugue state. But with a deeper psychological backstory of demonic infiltration. See here for a similar example.
I suppose since there are now two entities involved, additional conspirators are possible, although not necessary.
I changed my mind based on his genuinely broken and confused behavior in jail. Anyway, this should've probably been my dominant hypothesis all along.
Vox, I don't see A throne of Bones on Amazon today. Will it still be forthcoming?
